Are there toilets on-board the bus and boats?

Unfortunately there are no toilets on the buses. We recommend that you visit the toilet prior to departure. There are toilets on the boat, but there may be a queue. 

Can we buy tickets on-board the boat or bus?

No, tickets have to be purchased prior to departure. We recommend buying tickets on our website as this is without an additional fee. You can also purchase tickets at the customer service centre in Flåm. It is also possible to book by telephone but there is an additional service charge. 

Do you offer a group discount on the boat and bus tours?

Yes, you will get a group discount if you are 12 persons or more. 

Is there a guide on-board?

There is no guide on the tour, but all tours have brochures and guide-books that are handed out free of charge. 

Can we bring a stroller on-board the boat or bus?

Yes, but it has to be collapsible. 

Is it permitted to bring a dog or cat on the tour? Is there an extra cost if we bring a dog or cat?

Dogs and cats can be taken on the train and boat. If other people are allergic you have to remain in the assigned area or in the worst case scenario, have to take a different departure. Please make sure the dog remains on a leash throughout the journey.
Please talk to the driver/crew in advance if you are bringing a dog or cat.
Dogs and other small pets with a shoulder hight less than 40 cm travel for free. You pay childrens rate when travelling with dogs taller than 40 cm.

Guide dogs accompanying blind passengers and trainee guide dogs always travel free on trains and ferries when on service (in other words, when they are fitted with a harness and a hand grip for the blind passenger).

We do not allow any pets on the busses.

Can we book tickets in advance?

Yes, we recommend that you purchase your ticket via our website. You can also book tickets over the phone, but there is an additional fee. 

Are the tours weather dependent?

No, all our trips are weather independent. 

Is there a nursery in Flam?

Yes, there is a nursery in the station building. 

Is it possible to pay with foreign currency on the boat or bus?

No, we only accept Norwegian currency or debit/credit cards as a method of payment on-board.

Is it possible to book for a wheelchair in advance?

Yes is it possible, you can now book online by clicking here. Please choose cathegory "wheelchair spot" in order to book for wheelchair user. Max. capacity: 2 wheelchairs per departure.    

Can I pay for the tickets using foreign currency?

No, we only accept Norwegian currency (NOK) or debet/credit cards as methods of payment. 

Can I take a different departure on the Flåm Railway than what's specified on my ticket?

No – the Flåm Railway ticket is only valid for the departure specified.

Is it possible to drive to Myrdal?

No, there is no road up to Myrdal. 

Is there a bus to Myrdal?

No, there is no road up to Myrdal. 

Do I have to take a taxi from the cruise terminal to Flam station?

The distance from the cruise port to Flam station is roughly 250m, thus within walking distance for most. Please see the Flam town center map here. 

What is there to do in Myrdal?

Myrdal is a small mountain station with a cafe and souvenir shop in the station during the summer, as well as the possibility of accommodation at Myrdal Fjellstove (Myrdal Mountain Lodge). 

Is it possible to park near Flam station?

Yes, there is free parking right next to the station. 

How long does the Flam railway journey last?

The journey is 50 minutes one way. The round-trip takes roughly 2 hours during the summer. See the timetables here

Do Eurail/Interrail pass holders have to buy a ticket?

Yes, a Eurail/Interrail pass entitles the holder to a 30% discount on standard one-way tickets. The ticket must be purchased before boarding. You can purchase your Flåm Railway one-way ticket with Eurail/Interrail discount at any NSB train station in Norway, except Myrdal station (no ticket office currently); or in advance by calling to NSB Call centerEurRail/InterRail discount ticket on the Flåm Railway is not available for online purchase.

Should we take the same train back from Myrdal when travelling Flam - Myrdal - Flam?

Yes, we recommend taking the same train back to Flam, as it is the train journey that is the main attraction not the stay in Myrdal. 

Is it possible to buy Flamsbana tickets at Myrdal station?

No, Myrdal station does not have a ticketoffice. 

Are there student/senior prices during the summer season?

No, student and senior concessions are only available during the autumn and winter season from October to April. Please click this link for a complete price list. 

Is it permitted to leave the train during the stop at Kjosfossen?

Yes, the train has a 5 minute long photo-stop at Kjosfossen, where you are permitted to leave the train. However, you have to get back on the train before it continues. It is not possible to stay at Kjosfossen and wait for the next train. 

Is it possible to exit the train at Kjosfossen for wheelchair users?

No, unfortunately it's not possible for a wheelchair user to exit the train at Kjosfossen. 

Are there toilets on the train?

Yes, there are two toilets on the train. 

Is there a dining car where we can buy food and drinks?

No, there is no dining car on the train. 

Is it permitted to bring food onboard the train?

Yes, it's permitted to bring food onboard the train. 

Are there first class seats on the train?

No, the Flam Railway does not have first and second class seats. All seats are in the same price category. 

Is it possible to bring luggage on the train?

Yes, you can bring 1 suitcase and one piece of hand luggage. If there is additional luggage our trains have a goods compartment available for NOK 50,- per additional piece of luggage. Please contact Flam station if you want to transport luggage in the goods comparment. 

How long does it take to walk/cycle from Myrdal to Flam?

It takes 5 - 6 hours to walk from Myrdal to Flam. On a bicycle the trip takes roughly 2 hours. The distance between Myrdal and Flam is roughly 20 km. 

Is it difficult to find the path from Myrdal to Flam on foot or with a bicycle?

No, there is only one way down the valley. Make sure that you're walking or biking in the right direction. See the map here

Is it possible to leave the train during the journey?

There is a 5 minute stop at Kjosfossen waterfall and a 10 minute stop in Myrdal before the train returns to Flam. 

How much does it cost to bring a bicycle on the Flam railway?

For the 2016 season it costs NOK 100 per cycle or cycle trailer.

How many bicycles does the Flam railway have room for each departure?

We have enough space for roughly 3 bicycles per departure. 

Is it possible to book tickets for bicycles in advance on the Flam Railway?

We're sorry but it's not possible. If you are traveling with the first departure the next morning and want to ensure that you can bring your bicycle with you you have to deliver it to our bike expedition before 19:00 the evening prior to your intended departure so that we can send it to Myrdal in advance. The bicycle will be taken care of when it arrives in Myrdal and you can pick it up when you arrive in Myrdal the next morning. 

Is it possible to order tickets for both a person and a bicycle from Flam to Finse or Haugastol in advance?

Yes, this can be booked through the NSB customer service hotline, the telephone number is (0047) 815 00 888. Please note that the bicycle ticket does not guarantee space for your bicycle on a specific Flamsbana departure. We recommend that you hand in your bicycle in our bike expedition as soon as possible, before 19:00 the evening before if you plan on traveling on the first train the next morning. This is to ensure that we have space for your bicycle. 

Are there storage lockers in Flam station? What does it cost?

No, there are no storage lockers, but you can use our left luggage service, which costs NOK 50 per item during the summer season.

Is it far from Flam station to the ferry-dock?

No, the ferry-dock is by the train platform by Flam station. See the map here

Where can I find the boat I need to take when I'm on the "Norway in a nutshell" round-trip?

The boat will be at pier 1, right by the stationbuilding in Flam. 

Where do I find the boat I need to take when I'm on the "Sognefjorden in a nutshell" round-trip?

You can find the boat at pier 3, right by the stationbuilding in Flam. 

How many people work at the factory?

There are six full-time employees at the factory. In addition we have some seasonal employees. 

Which type of leather is used in the manufacture of the Aurland shoe?

We use leather from cows and bulls. The countries of origin are Switzerland and France. 

Where do you obtain your leather?

We buy our leather from a tannery called Sepici located in Turkey. It was named tannery of the year in Europe 2013. The Tannery's other customers include among others Louis Vuitton. 

How many shoes are manufactured each year?

It's a small-scale production and we produce roughly 7000 pairs each year. 

What is the classic Aurland shoe?

It's "natural" meaning light brown. It has been a part of the production since the start, since the first years of the leather sole. The black is also a part of the old vintage and has been a part of production for over 56 years. 

Is the Aurland shoe still made with a leather sole?

Yes, approximately 10% of our production has leather soles. Dancers especially love this variant. 

Are there a lot of steps to the manufacturing process, seeing as you have so many sowing-machines?

Yes, there are about 25 steps per shoe. 

Are any of the factory operations automated?

No, our production is not automated. Every step of the process is done by hand. The biggest difference from earlier times is that our sewing machines have electric motors. 

Where can I buy Aurland shoes?

You can buy shoes at our factory outlet, our store in Flam, our estore or via telephone. Please also see our list of resellers on our website. 

What are the shoe sizes like?

They are a little large, for instance our size 6 is the equivalent of a european size 40. 

What is a shoemaker warranty?

Among other things, it means that we will replace or repair soles at cost. Stiching is repaired free of charge. 

What type of soles are available for the shoes?

We have 3 main types of sole. Leather, rubber and a rough rubbersole that we've nicknamed "Wilderness". 

What is an Economusèe?

An Economusèe is an organization dedicated to preserving traditional arts and crafts. In addition to the factory, we also have a displaycenter and a store. The Economusèe slogan is "Artisans at work". 

What are the opening hours for the factory?

Please see our website for oppdated opening hours. 

Are there toilets at the following locations where the bus stops: Stegastein, magic white mountain, Stalheim and Undredal?

Yes, there are toilets at all the mentioned locations.

Are the tours wheelchair adapted?

Unfortunately, it is not possible for wheelchair users to board our boat or buses due to stairs and steps. 

When do we need to be at the pier?

We recommend being at the departure point a minimum of 15 minutes prior to departure. 

Is there a discount for seniors?

No, we do not offer dicounts for senior citizens. 

What do I do if I've forgotten to bring my travel documents?

You only need to give us your booking number/reference and name. You can also contact our customer service centre and ask for assistance. If possible, you can also find your booking number online.

Are we allowed to bring food onto the boat?
No, it is not permitted to bring food or drink with you onto the boat.
Am I eligible for a refund if the weather is bad?

No, we do not offer refunds due to weather conditions. 

Do you have car seats for children in the buses?

Yes, we have both booster seats and car seats available on the bus. Contact the driver prior to departure to arrange it. 

Where do the tours start?

In Flam most departures leave from pier 3. All the bus trips depart from the regular bus-stop by the stationbuilding and customer service centre. 

Is it possible to have meals served on-board?

Yes, the boats have a simple kiosk and cafè menu. If you want to book for a group, it could be advantageous to book from our adapted group menu. 

Is it worth spending more than a day in Flåm?

Yes, absolutely! Flåm offers all kinds of activities – cycling, kayaking, walking, RIB boats and much more. See Activities.

[Fjord Cruise & Undredal] Where can I take the bus in Flåm?

The bus stop is located only a few meters away from the train station and the Visitor Center. If you need help please come to the Visitor Center for assistance.

[Fjord Cruise & Undredal] On which kind of vessel will we be travelling?

You will be travelling on a ferry and passenger boat.

[Fjord Cruise & Undredal] Where will I meet the guide in Undredal?

The guide will meet you in Undredal at the Pier upon your arrival, if you are arriving by boat. If you are starting your trip by bus, the guide will be waiting for you at the bus stop.

[Fjord Cruise & Undredal] If I decide to spend more time in Undredal, can I take a different departure from the one previously booked?

No. If you decide to spend more time in the village, you will need to purchase a new ticket for the return journey.

Yes. In two hours you will have enough time to visit the village and the church, as well as have the chance to taste the world famous goat cheese, at the local cafe.

Yes. There are toilets on board and in the Osteklokka Café in Undredal.

You will be sailing through the spectacular and dramatic Aurlandsfjorden, which is a branch of the Sognefjord, Norway's longest fjord.

No. This is not a hiking tour. There are only short walks necessary to reach the different points of the Village.

It is not necessary to wear any special clothing as you will receive all clothing and equipment needed from the Fjord Safari crew. In the Winter we do advise you to wear warm clothes.

The tour is suitable for all ages but if you have any special requests, please contact the Fjord Safari office on +47 57 63 33 23. Suggested age limit is 6 years.

No, the Fjordsafari is a tour on a RIB boat, whiles the Fjord cruise is on a ferry.

[Fjord Safari] How long in advance do I need to be at the meeting point?

We advise you to be at the dock for registration and to get your equipment 20 minutes prior to departure time.

[Fjord Safari] Can you travel one way only with the Fjordsafari?

No, all the Fjordsafari tours are return trips only.

[Fjord Safari] Does the boat travel close to the shore?

Yes, at some points the boat will get very close to some waterfalls and villages, where you will be able to take fantastic pictures.

Yes, the captain of the boat guides and makes stops throughout the trip.

[Fjord Safari] Is the Fjordsafari available in the Winter?

The Fjordsafari operates all year round except for the period between 15th of December and 1st of February.

Each boat can take up to 12 people comfortably.

The bus stop is located by the car park. Once you get off the boat, you will only have to walk a few meters to reach it.

If you wish to visit the town center, we recommend that you take the full day tour as there will be some spare time before the boat returns.

On the full day tour there is a two hour stop in town after the visit to the museum and glaciers. If you are taking the half day tour, we recommend that you bring some food with you. It is also possible to buy small meals at the cafe onboard the boat.

No special clothing is required, however we recommend comfortable footwear and if possible a waterproof jacket.

Yes, you can buy tickets on board if there are tickets available. We always advise our customers to book their tickets in advance in order to ensure space on their desired departure.

Yes, please follow the assigned car lanes for boarding. A member of staff will be available for assistance.

[Nærøyfjorden Hiking] is there a day pass for this tour and can I hop on and hop off at any of the destinations?

Unfortunately, we do not offer day passes. If you wish to hop on and hop off, you will need to buy single tickets for each stop. If you have purchased a ticket beforehand, you must take the departure showing on your ticket. you may purchase the ticket on board the boat before each departure. Please note that we cannot guarantee availability. 

[Nærøyfjorden Hiking] What do I need to take with me on the tour?

Good hiking shoes, rainproof clothing, water, and a lunch package are recommended.

Yes, it is possible to camp along the Nærøyfjord. In Bakka, Styvi and Dyrdal you may request permition from the land owners. [Nærøyfjorden Hiking] Which are the most popular camping trails?

One of the most popular hiking trail is the Rimstigen, with a famous starting point in Bakka. Please note that the Level of difficulty for this trail is high and it is only advised for experience hikers. 

[Nærøyfjorden Hiking] Is it possible to reach any of these villages by car?

It is possible to drive from Gudvangen as far as Bakka, but not any further than that point.

[Nærøyfjorden Hiking] Is it possible to walk between the villages along the fjord?

You can only walk along the fjord between Styvi and Bleiklindi. this trail is called the Royal Post Road and is 6km long. It is also possible to walk from Gudvangen to Bakka and back.

Yes, there is a café in Gudvangen. 

[Nærøyfjorden Hiking] Is there a café on the hiking boat?

There is a small kiosk on board. Mainly drinks and snacks are served.

Yes, maps will be handed out as you board the hiking boat.

The boat trip lasts between 1.5 hours to 2.5 hours.

You can buy tickets on our website or in our visitor center.

No. We do not have allocated seats, therefore you are free to choose where to sit both inside and outside.

Yes. We have a cafeteria on all of our boats, where you can purchase hot and cold drinks as well as cakes and sandwiches.

All our boats depart from the habor. There are three piers with different departure times allocation. For daily departure docks, please contact the visitor center.

The boat departure in Gudvangen is situated next to the Gudvangen Fjordtell.

[Nærøyfjord Sightseeing] Which fjords will we be sailing on during the boat trip?

During your journey, the boat will sail on the Nærøyfjord, which is on the UNESCO world heritage list, and the Aurlandsfjord, which is a branch of the Sognefjord. 

[Nærøyfjord Sightseeing] Are we going to be able to get on and off from the boat during the boat trip?

No, it is not possible to get off the boat before your final destination. If you wish to stop in different places in between Flåm and Gudvangen, it is possible to book single tickets between each of the villages along the route.

No, unfortunately we do not have car ferries, only passenger ferries. 

[Nærøyfjord Sightseeing] Can we take kayaks and bicycles on board and is there an extra fee?

Yes, it is possible to take kayaks and bicycles on board. There is a fee of NOK 100,- per item. You can pre-book space for these items while booking your ticket on our website.

[Nærøyfjord] Are the fjord tours available in the winter?

The tours run year round with daily departures. The only exceptions are the national holidays on the 24th, 25th, and 31st of December in addition to the 1st of January. 

[Nærøyfjord] Can you go outside to take photos during the trip?

Yes, all boats have outside access.

[Nærøyfjord] Does the boat sail close enough to the shore to take photos?

The boat sails in the middle of the fjord for the main part of the journey, giving you beautiful sceneries all around you.  

[Undredal] Is it possible to see any goats in Undredal?

Yes, during the summer the goats are up in the valley and you can also see them along the main road.

[Nærøyfjord] Do you have maps of hikes along the Nærøyfjord?

Yes, maps will be handed out as you board the Nærøyfjord hiking boat. 

What software do I need to download and view brochures?

You need software capable of reading .pdf files. We suggest Adobe Acrobat Reader. 

What software do I need to play videos on your website?

You need the Adobe Flash player.

Yes, we serve vegetarian dishes on request. 

Which payment methods do you offer?

We accept Norwegian currency or debit/creditcard: Amex, Visa and Mastercard. 

Is it possible to bring a dog on the Flam railway?

Yes, dogs are welcome on the Flam railway. For dogs with a shoulder-height of 40cm the price is the equivalent of a children's ticket. Dogs with a shoulder-height under 40cm can travel for free. See prices here

Can I buy tickets for 2 persons in advance?

Yes, you can buy tickets on the train station in Flam or using our online booking. Tickets for people traveling in correspondence with the Bergen railway have to purchase their tickets via www.nsb.no or NSB customer service. The telephone for the NSB customer service hotline is 0047 815 00 888
