This ferry trip is a unique opportunity to experience several of the most beautiful fjords in Norway – all in one trip; the Nærøyfjord, Aurlandsfjord and Sognefjord. The classic-looking car ferries will take you on a 48 kilometre (39 miles) long fjord cruise – up-close to the best of Western Norwegian fjord landscape.

Mighty nature and exciting cultural history

The Nærøyfjord is considered one of the most stunning fjords in the world, so it is with good reasons the fjord is on the UNESCO’s World Heritage site. If you take the ferry from Gudvangen, you will start your fjord cruise by sailing through this narrow, majestic fjord. During the snow melting in June, you can see up to 25 waterfalls in the Nærøyfjord, and the largest of them can be seen all year long. One of them is Kjelfossen waterfall in Gudvangen, which is free-falling 840 meters in stages down to the fjord.

Further on, you will arrive the Aurlandsfjord, also on the UNESCO World Heritage Site. At the end of this fjord, the ferry will sail past the little village Frønningen, a village outside road connection. The only access is by boat. You will, for instance, see the legendary “Frønningen- godset”- a historic manor situated by the seaside.

Soon after, you sail past the mountain Bleia, 1775 metres (5823ft) above sea level. The fjord below the mountain is almost 1000 meters deep. For this reason, it is said that "Without water in the fjord", Bleia is the highest mountain in Norway.

Furthermore, the ferry will set the course to the final destination; the idyllic village of Kaupanger. In Kaupanger you can amongst other things see one of the 28 preserved stave churches in Norway, dating back to the mid-1100s.

The ferry trip between Gudvangen and Kaupanger is a definitive bucket list experience. It is a perfect break from the car drive, and an outstanding opportunity to experience many of the most beautiful fjords in Norway!
