The National Tourist Route across the Aurlandsfjellet plateau between Aurland and Lærdal is one of the most stunning high-mountain roads in Norway.

The Snow Road

If you are travelling from Lærdal, the FV 243 mountain road takes you from the fjord up to the mountain, 1,306 metres above sea level. This is high enough for the snow to lie all year round, which is why this is called the Snow Road. In early summer, the cleared snow banks along the road can be 10 metres high!

Stegastein Viewpoint

Above Aurlandsfjord you encounter an astonishing fjord landscape, around and below the remarkable Stegastein viewpoint. The prizewinning Stegastein structure is an attraction in its own right and offers and unparalleled vista of the fjord. Photo opportunities along the way abound.

In Aurland and Flåm, you will find many attractions and activities such as The Aurland Shoe, the Flåm Railway, the historic Fretheim Hotel and cruises on the World Heritage Nærøyfjord.
